Hillary Clinton meets Obama for ‘chiefly social’ lunch at White House

Their meeting will be closed to the press. Clinton stepped down on as secretary of state on Feb. 1, after serving for four years as the nations top diplomat. In the weeks following her departure from the State Department, Obama hosted Clinton and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, at a private dinner at the White House. Clinton lost the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination to Obama after a vigorous primary campaign and is currently considered an overwhelming favorite for the nomination in 2016, should she decide to run. As she weighs another campaign, Clinton has been traveling the country giving dozens of speeches, both paid and pro-bono, and is working on a new book.

The purpose, Earnest added, was chiefly social. The lunch date comes amid a flurry of interest in Clintons potential candidacy. Over the weekend, NBCs entertainment division announced that it is developing a miniseries on her political life starring Diane Lane. On Monday, CNN said it has hired documentary filmmaker Charles H. Ferguson to direct a feature-length movie about Clintons professional and personal life. Clinton has sought to remain above the political fray, giving paid and pro-bono speeches nationwide and working with her familys charitable foundation, even as her allies have begun laying the groundwork for a 2016 campaign. Clintons lunch with Obama came together after they saw each other in April at the opening of the George W.

Clinton’s trusted friends and aides are hurt. Yet it is a growing concern in the Clinton world about the spillover effect. We’re seeing a a little bit of public pressure beginning. President Obama, Hillary Clinton Dine at the White House

Remember, Politico launched on Jan. 23, 2007, just three days after Clinton announced she was forming an exploratory committee for a presidential campaign. Now Politico (and BuzzFeed and all the other new politically obsessed sites) is a force to be reckoned with. No tidbit is too small. Obama and Clinton recovered from their epic nomination battle long ago. The memory of Clinton denouncing Obama Shame on you, Barack Obama over alleged lies in campaign literature is fading.

Other Democrats are less forgiving of Summers. About a third of the 54-member Senate Democratic caucus signed the letter endorsing Yellen, 66, for the top Fed post, according to three Senate aides who asked not to be identified. The letter, a copy of which was obtained by Bloomberg News , cited her solid record as a bank regulator and willingness to challenge conventional wisdom regarding deregulation. The letter doesnt identify any other candidate, including Summers. Josh Earnest , the deputy White House press secretary, said today he wasnt sure the letter had been received yet, adding that the Fed decision was Obamas to make. The presidents role is to appoint someone, he said. Its the Senates role in this process to evaluate those appointees. A Summers spokeswoman, Kelly Friendly, declined to comment for this article.

White House: Obama-Clinton lunch is about ‘friendship’

Earnest declined to provide details, save for the lunch itself: grilled chicken, pasta jambalaya and salad. Specific details of the table talk will have to await the history books to be written on Obama’s second term, or perhaps the tomes on the 2016 election. Obama and Clinton fought a tense and historic Democratic primary battle in 2008. After his election as president, Obama persuaded Clinton to join his team as secretary of State. Clinton retired from that post earlier this year, and many analysts believe she will again the seek the presidency in 2016. Not on Monday’s guest list: Biden, who may launch his own presidential candidacy in three years.

Hollywood Re-Accredited by Safety Alliance

But the time has come for each party to assume its responsibility to make the TV sector a viable market.” In 2010, as the full impact of the global economic crisis was beginning to be felt in Spain, the government in Madrid banned commercials during movies and other programming on public broadcasters, hoping the ad revenue would shift to the nations ailing commercial networks. Spain’s treasury minister Cristobal Montoro now admits that the move (by a previous government) was a mistake. Hes called on all parties to “find a viable financing” model and has promised to find an additional $37 million through new sponsorship deals and advertising to boost RTVEs budget. Unlike in Greece, where the government temporarily shut down its national public broadcaster to save money, there are no plans in Madrid to pull the plug on RTVE. “Spain is nothing like Greece.
