Stocks Extend Winning Streak on Combination of Economic Growth, Expectations for Accommodative Fed –

Eastern time Friday. The Standard & Poor’s 500 fell three points, or 0.1 percent, to 1,989. The index closed at a record high the day before. The Nasdaq composite fell five points, or 0.1 percent, to 4,527.

Financial stocks put in a strong performance with Bank of America ( BAC ) shares more than 4% higher despite agreeing to a record $17 billion penalty with the Department of Justice over mortgage-backed securities. Although tech stocks had another good day, the Nasdaq Composite lagged its blue chip counterpart due to weakness in biotech and semiconductor stocks; it moved in and out of positive territory before ending a whisker higher. Markets advanced in the previous trading session. The S&P 500 increased 0.3% to close at a record high, just above 1,992. The Nasdaq and Dow Jones Industrial Average also ended a touch higher. Related: Fear & Greed Index 2.

The Dow Jones industrial average fell 38.46 points or 0.23 percent, to click here 17,001.03, the S&P 500 lost 4.01 points or 0.2 percent, to 1,988.36 and the Nasdaq Composite added 6.45 points or 0.14 percent, to 4,538.55. For the week, the Dow is up 2 percent, the S&P is up 1.7 percent and the Nasdaq is up 1.6 percent. It is the strongest week of gains for both the Dow and S&P since April, and the third straight week of gains for all three indexes.
