Obama Promises Action On Amnesty, Inaction On Ukraine – Yahoo News

sanctions levied against Russia over its actions in Ukraine are working but that Washington would face a much different set of questions about how to respond if Moscow invaded eastern Ukraine. Western officials warn that a Russian military buildup on Ukraine’s border could herald a major incursion to protect the pro-Moscow separatists fighting Ukrainian forces. Despite bipartisan pressure from lawmakers to send U.S. military aid to Ukraine, however, the Obama administration thus far has said it doesn’t believe U.S. military assistance is needed. “Keep in mind that the Russian army is a lot bigger than the Ukrainian army,” Obama said at a news conference.

Obama: US Sanctions Are Straining Russian Economy – ABC News

He normally holds a press conference in August, and he will leave for an 16-day August vacation on Aug. 19, in Marthas Vinyard, Mass. However, he showed more energy as he described plans to punish U.S.-based companies if they move their headquarters overseas, and when he talked about providing an executive amnesty for several million illegal immigrants. The American people want to see action on immigration, he said, even though many polls shows that Americans overwhelmingly oppose his immigration policies. Obama to sign revised veteran health care bill into law | New York Post

It’s not fair. Its not right. The lost revenue to Treasury means it has to be made up somewhere, he continued, saying taxpayers would foot the bill either through reduced services or increased taxes. The president said that the administration can’t solve the entire problem administratively but would look for ways through regulation to at least discourage some of the folks who may be trying to take advantage of the loophole. My preference would always be for us to go ahead and get something done in Congress, Obama said. Walgreens on Wednesday announced it would not move its headquarters despite its plans to purchase a foreign company.

Obama: ‘I don’t have a green light’ on executive power – Washington Times

Photo: EPA MORE ON: Senate approves bill making it easier for vets to get health care WASHINGTON Veterans are expected to have an easier time getting government-paid health care from local doctors under a bill that President Barack Obama is set to sign into law Thursday. The $16.3 billion measure also allows the Veterans Affairs Department to hire thousands of doctors, nurses and other health professionals at the VAs nearly 1,000 hospitals and outpatient clinics nationwide. Under the new law, employment rules will be revised to make it easier to fire senior VA executives judged to be negligent or performing poorly. Obama is traveling to Fort Belvoir, Virginia, an Army base 20 miles south of Washington, to sign the bill. Congress approved the measure last week before taking a five-week recess one of the few significant bills approved this year by both the House and the Senate. The legislation is a response to reports of veterans dying while awaiting appointments to see VA doctors and of a widespread practice of employees covering up months long wait times for appointments.
